Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2022 Couture By Olivier Rousteing was sheer brilliance.
When news came out that Jean Paul Gaultier’s next guest designer was going to be Olivier Rousting fashion lovers all around were over the moon excited.
Jean-paul has a remarkable library of fashions and has dressed some of the most influential people in pop culture. He has die-hard fans who never miss a beat of what he creates. Gaultier founded his eponymous fashion label in 1982 and has been going strong ever since then. He was the creative director for Hermès as well from 2003 to 2010 while still running his own label. We think it’s great that every year he does a collaboration with a designer, gives them the keys to his archives and lets the guest designer interpret what they would do with his vast variety of couture and ready-to-wear.
In 2003, Olivier Rousteing began his fashion career at Roberto Cavalli, where he was promoted to creative director of the Italian label’s women’s ready-to-wear collection, serving five years in that position. In 2009, he came back to France and began working for Balmain serving under the fashion house’s creative director (at the time) Christophe Decarnin.
At the age of 25, in 2011 Olivier became the creative director for Balmain Paris and…well the rest is history. Since putting Olivier in charge, the brand has had amazing success. Just like Jean Paul, Olivier is also dressing a lot of today’s icons and tastemakers. Seems like these two have a lot in common.
When Jean Paul Gaultier tapped Olivier Rousteing we didn’t know what to expect. We run down the looks that stayed with us in this video. We also nerd out over the endless pop culture references Jean Paul Gaultier stamped in the 1990s.
The show was an epic display of some of JPG’s most show-stopping fashion moments, reimagined by Olivier(we don’t want to give away too much, you’ll have to watch our review)
