Are you mastering your emotions?

A person who learns how to master their emotions is at the top tier of their game, it’s a whole new level of being a human being. Imagine that? being in control of you? It’s not an easy feat. We can really let loose sometimes so as to reach a level of complete self-control? That’s big.

A few things people overcome and become the ultimate master of themselves:

They’ve mastered what triggers them and do their best to act accordingly if and when the trigger is pulled.

Back in my younger days, I always struggled with my mood swings. I’m a Gemini so you can see what it’s like being a dual spirit. I was all over the place with my emotions. I was so hot-headed, looking back now I laugh at how mad I was…at nothing. When I got into my 20’s It only got worse, I was constantly fighting with myself, my mood was not getting any better. Then finally when I got into my 30s something wonderful happened. I was at a stressful job and developed so much body pain I deteriorated. If I didn’t get to that point (try not to get to that point to make a change) I would have never spoken to my doctor and my naturopathic practitioner and they would have never told me to meditate, listen to my body, relax, start eating right, etc. The icing on the cake was that my sister is a trained NLP practitioner (Neuro-linguistic programming Practitioner) so with her daily guidance, I did a complete 180-degree turn and changed for the better. You have to learn to master your triggers otherwise your triggers will master you.

They know who to be around and who to stay away from. 

This is very important because we will purposely hang out with people that we know drain us but we feel away with them because we’ve known them for a long time or you work with them or they’re family. This is a big move for people to make but at the end of the day, what do you rather: your sanity or living in misery? I’m at a point now in my life where no matter who it is, (family or best friend) I will not allow anyone to play with my emotions, manipulate me, plant bad seeds in my mind, etc. Part of taking care of your mental health is to put yourself first. That sometimes means loving people…from afar. If your anxiety starts to rise when you see a family member or friend, etc? it’s time to re-evaluate that relationship. Stick with the people who fill you with goodness, you feel inspired when you’re around them. It’s all good vibes.

When they get bad news or a negative situation arises, they know to respond… not react.

Now, this is a tricky one, to be honest. We’re going to come out of character based on what kind of news we get. Sometimes the news we get will bring up feelings that are expected. But after you receive the news and you calm down, you automatically know to respond. Also (going back to my second point on knowing who to be around vs. who not to) sometimes people will bring news to you just to get a reaction, to rev you up. Don’t give them or the news they’re bringing you the joy of seeing you go off. Keep calm and respond. My favourite response is nothing. Sometimes the best response to anything is nothing at all. Just walk away and keep going forward.

The vibe is different, they take a negative and turn it into a positive.

Negative situations will arise, that’s a fact. But knowing to take that negative and turn it into a positive is golden. I know this sounds very cliché but there is always something to be grateful for, no matter how small or big. People who vibe higher live in gratitude and always get better and better in life. They know that they can control their surroundings, and let go of what they can’t.

These are points that I’m getting better at mastering for my mind, body and spirit. It’s an everyday, every minute, every second practice. It means to be aware and conscious at all times. I know it takes a lot of work but knowing that you are in full control of your emotions and responses vs. someone else having that power to pull a trigger and hope you go off only to see that you aren’t at that petty level anymore?

It’s so worth the daily practice.
