Hilary MacMillan FW2013: The Debut
The Glass Factory in Toronto was filled with anticipation as emerging Toronto designer and entrepreneur, Hilary MacMillan was about to debut her first collection for Fall/Winter 2013. MacMillan, who almost became a lawyer, followed her passion to create.
“I have always had a passion for design and art, growing up with my mother who is a realist artist. End of my third year I decided to explore my other options, and i have always had a love for fashion and seeing a garment come from the early inspiration phase to completion always interested me. After graduating with my BA I went to Blanche Macdonald College and got my degree in fashion design,” she said.
Co-owner of ELLE Hardwarean accessories boutique on the trendy Queen West strip with her sister Lindsay, MacMillan is a busy woman, but she still found the time to create pieces for her debut show. Inspired by the Middle Ages royalty and equestrian style, MacMillan pulled rich colors including red, warm camel, black, gold, copper and bronze. The collection included separates, full dresses and pant suits. We loved the colors MacMillan chose to work with. The collection presented was versatile for the modern, woman within any age group.
