Musically Crushing: Yeah Yeah Yeahs ‘Zero’
The year was 2009, Zero was the first single released by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs from their third album, It’s Blitz! I remember when Carcia and I first saw this video and laid eyes on that leather jacket Karen O wore. A PVC dress and personalized studded leather jacket all designed by American designer, Christian Joy. Christan Joy (known for her Punk and DIY style of design) has been designing for Karen O for years. They met in 2001 and became good friends. When the Yeah Yeah Yeahs started doing live shows she would design a new outfit for Karen to rock every night. So its no wonder that Karen rocked that sick leather studded with the initials KO and that perfectly fitted PVC dress to the T. From Karen dancing down the San Fransisco street in typical glam fashion, To the band rolling in a shopping carts, the video is high energy and makes you want to jump in the screen and rock out with them. So what is the song exactly about?
Karen O says, “Zero’s sentiment is to revel in being you — you’re a zero so screw it! It’s the underdogs, the rebels, the outsiders that have always captivated me growing up so I decided why not flaunt that side of myself in the video.”
If you haven’t seen the vid “ZERO“, I strongly encourage you too. Also make sure to check out Christian’s costumes. It’s punk galore, Love it!
Yeah Yeah Yeahs today!
